Master Bath Redo...What's Next?

I had started a Master Bathroom project awhile ago and then got stuck!  Not with what to do next, but rather I just can't make up my mind on the flooring.  I go back and forth from the tile wood floor look to just normal tile.  I want a classic look that I won't get tired of in a few years, or more importantly, at this point, just a classic look for resale.  I keep gravitating toward the tiled wood floor look.  Thinking it's different but yet still is a classic.  Below is some pictures I have taken of the project and at what point I'm at now.  Do any of you lean toward a certain wood floor tile?  Which one do you like more?  I look forward to the emails!

In this photo I had already changed out all the door handles and hinges.  Now it was time to take out tile and re-stain cabinets.

I did videos of the process but because we are just picking out flooring at this point I'll only do the pictures portion and save you watching me remove tile (Boring)!  At this point you can see I have removed the green tile and sinks, removed the medicine cabinet out of the wall, built a new base for the old oak cabinets, Stained the cabinets using the Java Stain from General Finishes, cut new holes for the water supply lines.  WOW, I'm tired just typing it...Just Joking!

  Next, I dry-walled the hole where the old medicine cabinet was and decided to build a new open cabinet between the mirrors.  I've added the decorative molding and stained this to match the oak cabinets that have I have up-cycled.  I also replaced the brass faucets with nickle.  I have not added the counter tops because I want the floors to be decided on first.

So here we are ready for the tile to be chosen!

 Here is what I would love help with!  Should I do the barn wood tile on the left or the Walnut tile on the right??? Totally two different looks. I love the barn wood tile because each tile is SO different! But, then I think for resale maybe the walnut wood floor tile would be safer.  WHAT DO YOU THINK?  You can email me, leave a response on this blog or leave a response on Home Talk blog network.

Kitchen Makeover for $500.00

Taking a traditional OAK kitchen and making it AMAZING for a fraction of the cost!  I used General Finishes Java Stain for this project!  This project is NOT for someone without patients.  It's a huge job but really should make the house worth more money!

1st. thing I did was take the cabinets off of the wall and raise them to a height that was visually appealing!  I raised them 4 inches which also helped with allowing my appliances to sit under the cabinets (The Vita-mix)!

Next, I added the first coat of stain.  I used General Finishes Java Gel Stain.  I used 3 coats of stain and 2 coats of Polyurethane.

Next, I went to work building the moldings for the top of the cabinets.

I measured and made sure everything was level!

Here is a quick picture to show the steps!

Then I kept on staining!  This has two coats of stain and is always NOT very pretty at this stage.  I initially remember freaking out but decided to go do some YOGA to relax:)  After the 3rd coat is applied it totally looks better.

Then 2 coats of Poly and you are done.  I recommend using 3 coats of poly on the doors, this just makes it more durable.

I kept doors off of one section because I like the open cabinetry look!

I'm SO very pleased with the way this kitchen turned out and I love the durably of keeping the Oak Cabinets and just Up-cycling them

Here is another angle.  You can see I also built an Herb Magnet Board on the side to open some counter space.  I think that was my favorite part.  I LOVE organization.  I hope this helps someone get some ideas and update.

Boys Fabulous Bathroom Redo for $500.00

Another one of my favorite's. After moving into this house I decided I needed to redo as much as possible for as little as possible. This whole bathroom cost me under $500.00!

In this picture you can see the floors, oak cabinet and mauve counter tops!

Here I've taken out the oak cabinet and measuring the base perfectly before I start to tile! I can then build the Oak Cabinet up to make it higher in the bathroom.  Most cabinets are too low!

Here, I've dismantled the cabinet and I'm starting the building up portion of the cabinet.  This is prior to the staining process.

In this picture I'm trying to see how high I want the cabinet.  I don't want to go to high but would like this to be a bit higher than this!  I can tell visually, that this doesn't work for me.

In this picture, I've added the first coat of stain but have not tiled yet.  I've figured out the height and now just need to tile.

Here you can see the floors are completed with new baseboards...I'm feeling good at this point!

I'm REALLY happy now!  I've got the floors, cabinet and baseboards complete.  I just need some counter-tops and I can move on!

 

I found this cute cabinet at T.J. Maxx and it was perfect for the Swedish look I was going for...Ah..

Found these hooks at Tuesday Mornings and I thought they were cute considering we live in Colorado now!

I went with Stainless Steel counter-tops because it was under $100.00...these are perfect for the boys !

Found the mirror at T.J. Maxx for $30.00 which completed the look!  I especially like the cabinet color I chose for this room!  It's General Finishes Walnut Stain and I applied a Burnt Umber Stain over top!

I Really Love how this turned out for my boys!  This cost me total $500.00 and took 1 week!

OFFICE BEAUTY! Build a Console Table and Up-Cycle a Desk to Match!

What to do when your office is drab? Up-cycle and add on! Why not? I decided to up-cycle a desk that was given to me by my Aunt and build a side table to match, to hold printers, paper, books and more.   Take a look:) This only cost me $89.00!  And I think... I ROCKED THIS ONE:) 

I started by measuring my wall to see how long I wanted the table. Then I measured to see how tall I wanted it! 

 

Then I added a shelve so I could fit more on it! 

 Next I added these cute little X design to give it that decorated and fancy feel...AFTER ALL I AM A GIRL! 

 Here is a picture so you can see the basic steps!  Make sure to measure your wall first so you know how high you want your Console Table.  

Then I added 3 coats of General Finishes (Java Stain) and 2 coats of Polyurethane!  Remember, to leave enough drying time in-between coats of stain and poly!

Ahhh... A Women's work is never done:)  But, I'm happy with this! I think I'll up-cycle that desk my Aunt gave me.  

Here it is...I took the old desk and added the same X design I used on the console table! I used the same 2X2's which cost all of $4.00!

 

 I had to strip and stain this to match the side table. But, up-cycling for $4.00 is WAY WORTH IT! 

 

 

 Look at this room now!!! I feel so rich when I walk into the office now...even though I'm NOT:) Hope this gives you all an idea.
